AP Economics
Overview of the course
The AP Program offers two separate exams in economics: one in microeconomics and one in macroeconomics. These are college level courses taught to high school students.
The purpose of the AP course in microeconomics is to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the individual decision maker, both consumer and producer, within the economic system. The course places primary emphasis on the nature and functions of product markets and includes the study of factor markets and of the role of government in promoting greater efficiency and equity in the economy.
From basic economic concepts the course moves through the nature and functions of both product and factor markets and we examine the role of government and market failures.
In the AP macroeconomics course we aim to develop in students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the economy as a whole.
The course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination, and also develops students’ familiarity with economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics.
Both courses are fast-paced, academically rigorous and content-rich.
Our students are capable, eager to learn, and diligent. We deliver our teaching of the subject matter and prepare for the AP exam with a focus on the subject-specific vocabulary that initially poses a challenge due to the students working in a second language, but our students rise to this challenge admirably. Our students are high-flyers academically and a little extra help with English is really all that is needed.
