AP Economics

Overview of the course

AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics are college level courses taught to high school students.

The purpose of AP Microeconomics, according to the AP Economics course description, is 'to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the functions of individual decision makers, both consumers and producers, within the economic system'.

The purpose of AP Macroeconomics is: '...to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to an economic system as a whole'. Such a course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination, and also develops students' familiarity with economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics.'

These two courses are fast-paced, academically rigorous, and content-rich. If students work diligently they will have great success pursuing this field at the university level.

How is the teaching adapted to suit the needs of Chinese students?

The Chinese students we have in our program are very capable, eager to learn, and hard working. We take a little more time learning the subject matter and preparing for the AP exam because the students are working in a second language, but our students are high-flyers academically and a little extra help with English is really all that is needed.

Resources

Our classrooms use state of the art computer and data projections systems alongside American college level textbooks and ancillary materials. The instructional environment is on par with American AP high school programs.
